ENGIE - A LEADING PLAYER IN SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY AS A SERVICE

ENGIE provides cities, businesses and individuals with numerous integrated and innovative solutions to promote and encourage different forms of sustainable mobility. Contributing to the development of sustainable mobility lies at the heart of ENGIE’s zero carbon strategy. To support businesses and communities and make possible the transition to greener mobility solutions, the Group is developing “as a service” offers.

Mobility alone accounts for 20% of global energy consumption, 24% of global CO2 emissions, and a 95% dependency on oil. Sustainable mobility is therefore a crucial link for a successful zero carbon transition. ENGIE has developed sustainable mobility solutions ranging from the electrification of transit networks to refueling solutions for alternative fuels or improving and optimizing urban traffic flow thanks to digital technology. Since January 2019, ENGIE has offered a sustainable mobility as a service policy, providing support for local authorities and businesses that are seeking to transform their energy model.

Turnkey, tailored and co-financed sustainable mobility

Our “as a service” strategy primarily sets out to make life easier for our customers: we are supporting them in their zero carbon transition by being the ones to contribute the necessary skills and expertise and providing the funding for solutions. ​By doing this, we are addressing two challenges often faced by our corporate and community customers: identifying and managing multiple areas of expertise as well as accessing funds that are no longer available for their core businesses.

Sustainable mobility as a service offers our customers a long-term strategy, the implementation of sustainable mobility solutions with a tailored, turnkey offer built on the aggregation of our businesses, and financing of the transition.

These solutions meet 4 criteria:

> A range of funding made possible on the basis of a partnership of a public service delegation agreement

We are thus contributing to improving the quality of life in the regions by encouraging a mobility taking account of environmental and societal issues and our customers’ investment capabilities.

Hystart for developing hydrogen mobility at regional level:

This turnkey hydrogen mobility offer is intended for local authorities and commercial fleets, including rented vehicles (bicycles, utility vehicles and saloon cars), the installation and ​maintenance of charging stations, and the production of hydrogen and the supply of energy.

Charge & move: simplifying the use of electric mobility to speed up its development.

This is a long-term rental offer covering electric and hybrid vehicles, the installation and maintenance of charging stations and management of charging. Supply of green electricity is also available. The offer was developed in partnership with Arval.

Santiago, Chile: 100% green transit.

We provide the city of Santiago, Chile, with an integrated offer for public transit, which consists of the leasing of 100 electric buses and the installation and maintenance of the charging stations supplied with 100% certified renewable electricity.

​EV-Box Rotterdam: fueling a city through charging stations.

As part of a contract covering the installation of 4,000 charging stations for electric vehicles throughout the concession zone, including 1,800 in Rotterdam, ENGIE is responsible for installing, managing and operating the charging stations. Big Data analysis will play a key part during the installation of the system to optimize the use of the recharging network.

Zero Emission Valley: a unique project at regional level.

In May 2019, ENGIE invested in the project company Hympulsion, which is responsible for the rollout of Zero Emission Valley. This unique public-private partnership brings together the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional council and the ​Banque des Territoires, the Michelin Group, ENGIE and the Crédit Agricole. Zero Emission Valley is France's first renewable hydrogen-driven mobility project for professional captive fleets. Through our Hystart offer, we are initiating the deployment of this network with the installation of the first production and refueling station in Clermont Ferrand for the Michelin Group. When complete, the network will consist of 1,000 vehicles and 20 charging stations.

Transport for London: services for mobility.

ENGIE is responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems, fire detection and suppression systems across the London Underground network. Maintenance of fire safety systems will also be provided for other offices and facilities run by Transport for London (TfL). Service delivery by around 330 ENGIE employees will be supported by a 24/7 helpdesk, computer aided facilities management (CAFM) software and hand-held technology for operatives. The contract will also provide TfL with access to ENGIE’s energy management capabilities. The ability to self deliver the required services will be a key element in ENGIE delivering a successful contract. In helping TfL to improve performance and efficiency of London’s transport systems, ENGIE is helping to ease the use of public transport in a major city – a greener solution for mobility.

Wakefield, UK: a roadmap of projects to achieve carbon neutrality.

The city of Wakefield asked ENGIE to help it achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2030. ENGIE will work with the council on designing a roadmap of projects that will make carbon neutrality a realistic goal within the stated timescale. ENGIE will first of all carry out a complete analysis of the city’s current carbon footprint. This data will then be used to identify specific opportunities for decreasing emissions. These projects will have the additional benefit of reducing the council’s annual expenditure on energy. ENGIE has already completed or is currently delivering 35 energy and carbon saving projects with Wakefield Council. These projects will lead to annual savings of almost 3.5 million kWh of energy, equating to over 900 tonnes of CO2 and resulting in annual financial savings of around £300,000.
