XU ZIYANG, GROUP CEO OF ZTE - FUEL THE DIGITALIZATION, ENDOW WITH INTELLIGENCE

ZTE Corporation is a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise, and consumer technology solutions for the mobile Internet.
Xu Ziyang, CEO of the company, shares a message entitled "Fuel the Digitalization, Endow with Intelligence". This message was also featured at the recent Mobile World Congress 2021 in Barcelona.
What I will share with you is 'Fuel the Digitalization, Endow with Intelligence', which carries the hope of finding the way for the digital and intelligent transformation of human society together with our partners in the ecosystem by creating the digital foundation and continuously strengthening it.
It has been two years since 5G was first introduced. To date, over 1.1 million 5G base stations are in operation around the world. 5G not only brings an improved user experience, but also drives the digital and intelligent transformation of industries.
At ZTE's 5G Intelligent Manufacturing Base in Nanjing, five 5G base stations are produced every minute and are sent all over the world. It's also a great example of our Intelligent Manufacturing Powered by 5G practice. With the full coverage of 5G networks and the implementation of MEC 10, we have provided typical 5G applications that are essential for the realization of intelligent manufacturing, including cloud-based AGV, 8K machine vision, cloud-based PLC, smart storage, industrial wearables, digital twins, and on-site inspection.
This has resulted in quite encouraging numbers, the labor force has been reduced by 40%, the error rate has decreased by 20%, and the production cycle has been decreased by 30% while production efficiency has increased by 40%. In addition, together with over 90 big network operators and 500 partners worldwide, we have researched innovative 5G applications in a wide range, and massive use cases have been developed in more than 15 industries with positive results. We are delighted that the changes brought about by 5G and many other new information technologies are taking place in Thailand's factories, Belgium's ports, Austria's farms and in manufacturing, transportation, the power grid and environmental protection in China .
"As many leaders already know, 'data-driven' is undoubtedly the key to digitally transforming hundreds of thousands of verticals."
Although 5G applications are still at an early stage, we can already see some directions clearly. The first that came to mind is to push the boundaries of the senses and create infinite possibilities for the individual. They know that the line between the digital world and the physical world is gradually blurring thanks to the advent of new networks and cloud services. Smart homes make our lives easier. By wearing an AR / VR headset, we can experience trips, games, sporting events and concerts from the comfort of our own home. By using drones, we are able to broaden our view. With applications such as autonomous driving, machine vision, unmanned mining and rescue robots, our property and our lives are protected even better.
Second, it is about bridging the digital divide in order to achieve the sustainable development goals around the world. For example: Telemedicine via 5G enables doctors and specialists to diagnose patients remotely, which means that high-quality medical resources are within easy reach. Reporters can communicate face-to-face with customers using holographic technology. Distance learning offers equal educational opportunities for regions in different stages of development. 5G FWA enables fast broadband service delivery in some areas with limited infrastructure. You can work just as effectively from home as you can in the office. With 5G air-to-ground technology, passengers can enjoy services during the flight just as smoothly as when they are on the ground. As we can see, 5G narrows the distance between people and brings hearts closer.
In addition, in line with the modern industrial revolution, we are developing information technology to accelerate social development. Smart factories, for example, represent a leap from traditional manufacturing that reduces costs while improving efficiency and quality. Smart transportation infrastructure enables low-carbon and more effective transportation. 5G helps build reliable, secure, economical, efficient and environmentally friendly smart grids by implementing extensive connectivity with low latency and low cost, which should ultimately lead to a reduction in carbon emissions. With 5G, intelligent management in agriculture becomes a reality.
The innovative applications we have today certainly need to evolve through immersion in economies of scale and business models. However, one common requirement should and must be identified, namely the digital enablement platform.
As many leaders already know, 'data-driven' is undoubtedly the key to digitally transforming hundreds of thousands of verticals.
With this understanding, the Digital Foundation, which plays an important role, should be continuously improved in terms of 'Ubiquitous Broadband', 'Pervasive Computing' and also in 'Multidimensional Convergence'. On top of that, new markets are opened up and the sustainability of the industry secured.
We believe that enhanced network capability is moving up in three areas: bandwidth, agility, and scheduling.
With regard to the expansion of the bandwidth, the 5G uplink expansion and the optical gigabit access for wired broadband should be mentioned in particular. In terms of network agility, SRv6 makes IP networks more flexible and programmable. FlexE-based VPN capability and hard slicing meet the requirements for low latency, low jittering, maximum reliability and secure isolation. Optical networks have reached the next evolutionary stage with mesh, which improves capacity, reduces latency and increases redundancy. The cloud-native core supports deployment and operation in a more flexible, agile, and resilient way.
We can leverage resource planning, separation of control and routing, automated end-to-end slicing orchestration, automated provisioning within minutes, and flexible slicing operations to improve operational efficiency.
The data volume and the variety of data are increasing rapidly in the AIoT era. Meanwhile, with the introduction of AI, e.g. B. Deep learning algorithms, more and more complicated. The centralized computing capacities can no longer be surpassed in terms of security and efficiency. On the contrary, the synergy between the cloud and the terminal was seen as the panacea for this headache. With the recognized capacity difference between cloud, edge and terminal and the progressive optimization of software, hardware and chipsets, load-sensitive hyperconvergence becomes the key to an infrastructure that guarantees scalability, agility and fast iteration.
That actually brings me to a few big words: cloud network convergence, software and hardware convergence, AI convergence and also intrinsic security. First of all, we need clouds on demand and cloud network synergies to balance out the diversity. The practice we implemented last year, say 'Precise Cloud and Network Solution', has really shown the power of a good example to serve vertical businesses and accelerate digital transformation.
In addition, software-hardware convergence enriches our ability to track the nature of the business and cost-effectiveness. Software relies on cloud native, microservices and components; in parallel, the hardware is looking for ultimate performance. We can break through their hard limits by performing a joint and global optimization that is designed for specific scenarios. For example, we'll see more universal accelerator options and more chiplet innovations.
"We can leverage resource planning, separation of control and routing, automated end-to-end slicing orchestration, automated provisioning within minutes, and flexible slicing operations to improve operational efficiency."
Speaking of AI: It's about making the most of the value of the data. The AI convergence based on big data and training models supports the cross-domain coordination of systems and nodes, facilitates orchestration from the data center down to the radio interface and enables more efficient operation and maintenance.
Last but not least, intrinsic security functions as a self-aware, self-adaptive and self-developing immune system for networks. It was developed while the network was being set up, offers several security functions and can automatically develop further during network operation, so that security, services and data are always guaranteed. According to the GSMA, the cellular industry is currently responsible for around 0.4% of global carbon emissions. It is the industry’s common goal to reduce carbon emissions. In order to build green networks with lower power consumption, ZTE advocates suitable measures over the entire life cycle of the network.
In particular, more efficient and intelligent production and manufacturing with lower power consumption can be realized through 5G Industrial Internet, MEC and AI. When it comes to base station innovation, we can improve the design of chipsets, power amplifiers, and system integration for greater power efficiency. As the grid builds, carbon emissions can be reduced through the use of clean energy and highly efficient backup power for base stations and heat dissipation technologies for data centers such as B. preset modular design and liquid cooling technology can be reduced. In network operation, solutions such as PowerPilot can be used for intelligent, algorithm-based traffic planning.
"Although 5G has been in commercial use for over two years, it is still in its infancy. In order to ensure commercial success, we should also work together on innovations in the development of ecosystems and business models. ZTE is fully committed to the development of the industry."
With measures throughout the network lifecycle, we can help operators to build green networks more effectively.
Although 5G has been in commercial use for over two years, it is still in its infancy. In order to ensure commercial success, we should also work together on innovations in the development of ecosystems and business models. ZTE is committed to the development of the industry and the ecosystem and has extensive experience with core technologies, E2E-DICT products and solutions, cloud components and 5G innovations. We are ready to open these underlying capabilities to all industrial and ecosystem partners. I am curious to see where this trend will lead us. Let's work together on a future from which everyone benefits.
